I Will Go

Genesis 24:58 In this passage, Rebekah has been asked to go away and be the wife of Isaac.  She replies, “I will go.”

Just think about all that Rebekah is walking into.  She is leaving her father’s home and everything she knows.  She is leaving behind the comfort of her  mother and friends.  She is leaving behind the familiar places that she knows.  Rebekah will most likely never see her family again.

Rebekah’s willingness to marry Isaac reminds me of Mary’s response to the angel when she is told that she is pregnant.  In Luke 1:38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Mary was willing to allow God to use her to bring the Savior to the earth.  She had to know how difficult her life would become, and yet she willingly submitted to God’s plan.

Have you ever had to leave the familiar behind?  It can be a scary experience.  But it can also be a very exciting time in life.  Is God calling you to something new in life? In 2021, God called me to retire from my job. As a teacher, it was all I knew, all I had ever done and all I ever wanted to do. Stepping out of those doors for the first time, thinking I wouldn’t be back, was frankly terrifying to me! But God knew that I needed a change and a rest. Doing scary things while following God opens doors to your future.   Is there something He is asking you to do? Have you been putting off getting started?

So how do we know (discern) what God wants us to do? Here are some things that I do when I’m making a decision. First, I pray and seek wisdom from God’s word. Daily reading God’s word helps me to understand and be able to find passages that help me know His will for me. Next, I look at my daily responsibilities and the things I do to refuel my spirit. Examples of this are; crafting, serving others and being in nature. And finally, I run my thoughts past my husband. You might have a mentor or a counselor or good friend who really knows you well. If this all aligns that you can be sure that God has shown you your next journey.

Each step of faith that you take is a  step toward the center of God’s will.  Moving forward will bring abundant blessings to your life.   Look at where you want to be and determine the first step you will need to take. What do you need to do first? Look for a little tiny step to take. Then take it. Cover every minute with prayer and repeat with the next step. Before you know it – you will reach your goal.

What is the first step you need to take on the journey that God is calling you to?  Make a plan and then take your step.
