Faithfulness in Motherhood: Honoring God in Daily Life

With Christ in our hearts, we can become a mother of nations, and begin our own line of godly seed. Our family is the front line as far as our “ministry” goes.  I know that many women do not see their family as a ministry, but I believe God’s word tells us otherwise. God provides us with the example of the Proverbs 31 woman. Many of us find the day to day work of homemaking to be tedious and we wonder what our “purpose” is.  In Matthew 25:45, Jesus says, “…Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” I think this verse supports that we are to care for our families. Our families are the first line of defense against the culture we live in today where satan is breaking up families left and right. We must follow God and His commands if we are to protect our children and heal our culture and country.

If we are married, our first duty is to our husband. “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord” Colossians 3:18. We are to care for and support him daily in becoming who God is calling him to be. We can help him to feel confident and strong. We should be an asset to our husbands and help them to grow. So let’s commit to praying regularly for our husbands and to support him as he needs.

Next comes our children.  We are to love them and care for them. We are to teach them to follow God. Proverbs 22:6 tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Our children need their families more than anyone else, especially right now. Our children are under attack as the most vulnerable members of our society. We have trusted schools and teachers to teach our children without pushing agendas on them. Some schools and teachers have shown that they are not to be trusted. Not all schools and teachers are bad, but we must be vigilant if our children are enrolled in a school.  Our children need their moms to put them first and to sacrifice so that they can know God and His love. Let’s lead by example and be willing to show our children how to put God first in our lives.

God wants us to be faithful in everything we do, even the small, mundane and boring things. Let’s pray for those whose clothes we are folding and thank God as we do dishes. God wants us to be faithful as we care for our homes, husbands, and children. God cares about our daily lives! How comforting is that? The God of the universe looks down on you as you wipe a nose for the tenth time and smiles.

Our influence will ripple beyond our family as our husband and children enter into the world and meet other people. As homemakers our reach is far beyond the walls of our home. So are you ready to joyfully jump into those dull and repetitive tasks for God’s glory?
